The Montessori educator

The Montessori educator

Model – Caregiver – Guide

The role of the Montessori educator is to offer warmth, support to children, to respect their abilities and their developmental needs.

Specifically:

  • Prepares the environment
  • Connects the child with the appropriate material, offering the stimulus for learning
  • Coordinates and sets the boundaries between freedom and discipline.
  • Monitors and records the child’s progress

The Montessori educator is trained to carefully observe children’s interests and activity. Observation is one of the most basic skills he acquires during his education because through it he helps the child to progress and develop. Through observation, he selects those stimuli that correspond to the developmental stage of each child. The right stimulus at the right time.

The Montessori adult is the designer of the environment, the observer, the presenter, the guide and the role model. For this role he needs to be physically, mentally, morally and spiritually prepared.
