My mom is ringing the bell. A smile and a hug approaches us. “Good morning, how are you?” says my teacher and extends her hand.
I smile and trot into the reception area, take off my jacket and lay it on the table. I bring the hanger and hang the jacket, first one sleeve and then the other, as George showed me.
Georgos is older.
I take off my shoes and look for the box with my photo and name on it. I still don’t know how to read.
I take my slippers and put my shoes inside.
I’m going to class.
My teacher sits in our news circle and tells the children a funny story about her daughter. I take a pillow and sit in the circle.
I can’t wait to say how I spent yesterday with my cousin Maria.
It’s time to pick a game.
My teacher asks me if I want to go make cheesecake. This cheese pie is called “Patsavouropita”. I’m going with her. I like to break the eggs and crumple the foil.
The cheese pie went into the oven. They will serve it at tithe.
In class my teacher plays the guitar. They sing “I have a little elephant, four hundred and twenty kilos…”
I’m hungry.
I take a bowl and sit at the treat table. I serve with a spoonful of raisins. Irene comes and sits next to me. We are discussing.
I get up. My teacher offers to show me how to polish wood.
I don’t want to.
I want to play with the mystery bag. I spread a small rug and bring my pillow. I bring the mask and the mystery bag. Iphigenia comes next to me and asks if she can play with me. Andreas is coming soon. The three of us play together. The teacher has put something new in the bag. I don’t recognize it. I leave it and look for something else. I know what it is – an eraser. I say her name and take her out of the bag.
The cheese pie was served and the whole class smells.
I go and serve a big piece.
My teacher makes a circle and shows us the globe. I take my pillow and go join in.
The cycle is over.
I want to decorate my classroom with flowers.
I take the tray, choose a coaster and a small vase. I take the jug and fill it with water. I fill the small jar with water. I take the scissors and cut the stem off a daisy. I put it in the jar. I also choose a milling cutter. I love how I decorated my vase. I choose a table and place the jar on it. I decorate a second vase and then a third.
Collecting my work.
I go around the class and observe.
It’s time to go to the garden.
I walk the balance board.
I’m swinging.
I take the wood from the box and set up a structure with Michael. We are building a train with many wagons.
I was hungry.
I take a carrot from the garden, wash it and eat it.
It’s time to eat.
Today I applied to be a banker. I wear my apron and serve the tables. First I put the placemats, then the plates, glasses, spoons and forks.
We have lentils, and lettuce and feta salad.
The teacher is also sitting at the table with us to eat.
Antigone and Jason make up their own words. “Marmeladolykos” says Jason. “Train cow” says Antigone.
“I know a story about a jelly wolf and a story about a train cow” says the teacher, “do you want me to tell you?”
And he tells us the story of marmalade. I really liked it. Tomorrow I want her to tell us again.
Lunch is over. I don’t want to help pick up. George and Maria want.
I’m going back to class.
I want to rest. I lie on the mattress.
I hear the teacher inviting the children into a circle. He will read my favorite story.
I get up, grab a pillow and go listen.
My day at school is ending.
I can’t wait to see my mom and play with my little dog.
Tomorrow will be a new day and something new will happen…
